Health products and services that disrupt the status quo

Access to quality sexual and reproductive health products and services has an outsized impact on global equity. Improving access in radical ways is how we aim to build a better world and future for all. We collaborate primarily around five focus areas:

Product Introduction

Catalyst Global works with partners to introduce new and improved contraceptive methods and other health solutions that fill gaps in the market. We believe that women deserve the same access, choice and quality of sexual and reproductive health products and services, no matter where they live.

Featured Project

Expanding Effective Contraceptive Options (EECO)

The EECO project supports the introduction of new and underused contraceptive methods that will address method-related reasons for non-use and better meet the reproductive health needs of girls and women, in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

Each product in the EECO portfolio has important benefits; for example, some are non-hormonal, long-acting, reversible, discreet, or used only on demand. Several products are self-care methods, which help overcome barriers such as lack of access to health care providers or provider biases.

Comprehensive Regulatory Support

Nearly two billion people in the world lack access to essential medicines (WHO, December 2019). In many low-and middle-income countries, safe and effective medicines are not always available, accessible, or affordable.

The regulation of health products is a critical component of strong health systems, as it promotes and protects public health through controlling the safety and efficacy of products (pharmaceuticals, medical devices, etc.) and through regulating the companies that develop, manufacture, and market these products to the public.

FEATURED PROJECTS

LEAP

Under the LEAP LNG-IUS Initiative, we conducted a regulatory assessment with the goal of identifying potential strategies to expedite national registrations of LNG-IUS product(s) in Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) countries.

We provide strategic regulatory planning and support for approval in South Africa for LACTIN-V, a biotherapeutic HIV prevention product currently in phase 2B clinical trials.

Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance of drugs and medical devices has become a major public health challenge. Countries need reliable, high-quality products that are produced according to standards. Unfortunately, substandard and counterfeit pharmaceutical products are widely accessible globally. Such products are ineffective at best and dangerous at worst, putting lives at risk.

Our Quality Assurance team collaborates with suppliers and partners to ensure the delivery of safer and more effective products. Prior to distribution, we qualify each supplier and conduct a GMP audit to determine their compliance.  This includes verification of regulatory status. We also assist with pharmacovigilance plans and provide support for technology transfers and improved standard operating procedures.

Health Care Provider Support

The introduction of new products and services into the health care system requires updated guidelines, job aids, training and support. We seek to ensure that health care providers have the resources, skills, confidence and capacity to deliver a range of reproductive health services.

Featured Project

Maximizing Health Care Provider Performance (MAX)

Health care personnel can face restrictive barriers in the provision of safe, high-quality reproductive health services. These include restrictive laws; harassment and stigma; conflicting beliefs and values; supply chain commodity and equipment stockouts; lack of access to training opportunities; and difficulty advocating with management for support.

Through MAX, our innovative health care model, we took a new approach to change health care provider behavior and improve patient outcomes in reproductive health care.

Sexual Health Education

Comprehensive sexual health education helps people make informed choices so that they can lead healthier lives. Sex-positive and body-positive education, which emphasizes consent and pleasure, can help to counteract negative stereotypes and fear-based messages. In addition, studies have demonstrated that comprehensive sexuality education programs can reduce rates of risk behaviors (e.g., unprotected sex, number of sexual partners), sexually transmitted infections, and adolescent pregnancy.

Featured Project

The Tryst Network Campaign

The Tryst Network provided a sex-positive pool of resources to improve the sexual health IQ of women and their partners through fun, reliable and empowering online content.

In collaboration with actress and activist Jessica Biel, the Tryst Network created entertaining, funny, provocative, and empowering online content. Through a curated network of trusted and reliable resources, Tryst empowered individuals to make healthy and informed choices.
