Catalyst Global Announces New Board Member Dr. Jotham Musinguzi

The non-profit organization welcomes an award-winning expert in population and development, reproductive health, family planning and HIV/AIDS.

CARLSBAD, Calif., March 27, 2023 (Newswire.com) – Catalyst Global, an international non-profit organization committed to increasing access to critical sexual and reproductive health (SRH) products and services in low- and middle-income countries, announced a new board member today, Dr. Jotham Musinguzi.

Dr. Musinguzi brings a unique perspective as both a Public Health Physician and current Director General of Uganda’s National Population Council. He specializes in the areas of population and development, reproductive health, family planning and HIV/AIDS.

Throughout his storied career, Dr. Musinguzi has been a catalyst of several important public health initiatives. He played a major role in drafting the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo in 1994, and was actively involved in negotiations on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In 2013, Dr. Musinguzi received the United Nations Population Prize from the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters in New York in recognition of his outstanding work to promote the ICPD principle that reproductive health must be a key component of any general strategy of social and economic development.

More recently, Dr. Musinguzi served as Regional Director of Partners in Population and Development (PPD) Africa Regional Office (ARO), based in Kampala, Uganda. He also served as a Trustee and on a number of Boards of Directors including Women Deliver, PSI, RHSC, Guttmacher Institute, the Commonwealth Medical Trust of London, and others.

“I am proud to welcome Dr. Musinguzi, an incredible leader in the reproductive health field, to our board and team. I know he will add tremendous value with his many decades of passion and expertise on the quest to ensure that all people can exercise their reproductive rights and fulfill their true potential,” says Shannon Bledsoe, Executive Director.

In recent years, Catalyst Global has increased access to 16 reproductive health products in over 90 countries, including four self-care methods. “I look forward to the valuable insight Dr. Musinguzi will bring as we continue to increase access to these life-changing health products.”

Dr. Musinguzi explains, “I am excited to join the Board of Directors for Catalyst Global, and feel grateful to partner with an organization that shares the same values and ultimate goal of making quality reproductive health products and services accessible around the world.”

Dr. Musinguzi will join the following Catalyst Global Board Members: Sylvia Cares, Dr. Kelly Culwell, Upeka De Silva, Brian McKenna, Jill Sheffield and Dr. Paula Tavrow. To learn more about Catalyst Global’s Board and Leadership, visit https://catalystglobal.org/team
