It is with great sadness that WCG announces the passing of Dr. James Trussell, Board Chairman of WCG Cares. James played a key role on the WCG Board of Directors since December of 2016.
James was Professor Emeritus of Economics and Public Affairs and Senior Research Demographer of the Office of Population Research at Princeton University. He was the author or co-author of more than 350 scientific publications, and was a fellow of the Population Council, the Guttmacher Institute, and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. During the course of his long career, he contributed significantly to demographic methodology and played a leading role in promoting the accessibility of emergency contraception to women as a critical method to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy.
Shannon Bledsoe, WCG Executive Director, said, ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of a dear colleague who made invaluable contributions to the field of reproductive health and brought great wisdom and experience to our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Trussell’s family and loved ones.’
The WCG Board of Directors will manage the issue of succession in early 2019.
